Lenovo Vibe Z Launch @ Aloft KL

Hot on the heels of the launch of the Lenovo Vibe X barely two months ago (you can read more here – https://timchew.net/2014/01/16/lenovo-vibe-x-launch-150114/) is Lenovo’s latest premium smartphone offering – the Lenovo Vibe Z. I managed to attend the launch at Aloft KL on 12 March 2014 to experience this new smartphone for myself.

The new Vibe Z is Lenovo’s new flagship model and add to their existing portfolio of phones ranging from feature phones to premium smartphones across multiple price points. At the launch, Lenovo shared that they created the new Vibe Z with its elegant design, high performance and custom software so that people can truly have the best smartphone experience now at the speed of LTE.

The Lenovo Vibe Z will be available nationwide exclusively with Celcom from 15th March 2014. Customers who purchase the device with Celcom’s plans that utilize Celcom’s 4G LTE network will receive a RM50 shopping voucher as a limited time offer. The Vibe Z is Lenovo’s first LTE capable smartphone which offers super-fast data upload at up to 50 Mbit/s and downloading at up to 150 Mbit/s (dependent on mobile carrier of course). The Vibe Z operates on GSM/UMTS networks up to 2100 and comes with 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.

Esthetics wise, the Vibe Z is encased in a thin 7.9mm silver or titanium body weighing in at 147 grams with a beautiful and comfortable to hold laser-etched, fabric-feel rear cover. The display is a 5.5-inch full high-definition (1920×1080) IPS wide-angle viewing touchscreen display, with wonderful clarity as it utilizes the 20/20 Vision display with a pixel density of 400 pixels per inch.

 

Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 800 Quad-core 2.2GHz processor with 2 GB of memory (RAM), 16 GB of internal storage (however there is no slot for expandable memory).

The Vibe Z has a 13 MP rear camera with a large f1.8 aperture lens for low light situations and a 5 MP front camera that’s equipped with an 84° lens for wide-angle shots (now you can easily do multi-person selfies like Ellen DeGeneres at the recent Oscars). Complementing the cameras are the Lenovo’s Super Camera and Super Gallery apps that allows users add fun effects to their photos easily. The Vibe Z also offers Lenovo-specific software supporting motion and gestures for better one-handed usage on large screen devices.

The Lenovo Vibe Z will be available exclusively from now until mid April with Celcom First with mPro plan or mPro Plus, Celcom’s best voice and data plan with 5GB data from RM988.00 on a 24-month contract.

Come 15 April 2014, the Lenovo Vibe Z will be available at all Lenovo Smartphone Retail Partners at the RRP of RM 1,799.00
